Pedro Rodríguez, the driver who understood the Porsche 917K best
Pedro Rodríguez is a racing driver who was a hero in Mexico.
He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Porsche 917K, anyway thisMr. Ferdinand Piëch who was the designer of 917KAccording to him, "No driver understood the 917K as much as he did."
Pedro seemed to be very strong in racing in the rain, and the headlights of his machine shining in the dark rainy night race were symbolic, like the eyes of a cat shining in the dark.
For that reason, his fans used to call Pedro "Cat's Eye".
Pedro, who was a great driver, died in an accident during the race on July 11, 1971.
It's been 50 years since he died. At the 50th anniversary of his death, Porsche Mexico pays homage to him and announces the Pedro Rodriguez model on the Porsche 911 Turbo S.
* This model is from Mexico, so it seems that it will not be sold in other countries.
Always keep the Mexican national anthem in your heart
What I liked about Pedro's story was that he had a recording of the Mexican national anthem in his heart during the race. It wasn't written what the recording medium was, but maybe it's a record?
The reason for doing that is that when he won the South African Grand Prix, the national anthem of the winner was supposed to be played, but at this time the national anthem of Mexico was prepared. It seems that the national anthem of Mexico was not played on the spot because it was not.
In other words, there was no preparation for the Mexican national anthem because it was thought that "Mexico would not win."
It is said that he had the Mexican national anthem in his chest, and it was on the left side with his heart, because he thought, "I won the championship, but I couldn't play the national anthem." That is. It's a wonderful story where you can feel patriotism and pride.
