Is there a trunk in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992.1)?

Posted: August 21, 2022 Updated:

Front trunk of the new GT3 RS

The recently announced Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992.1) uses a front radiator concept.

…So what is it all about? Until now, there were three radiator layouts in the front part, one on the left, right and one in the center. .

I think that many people were wondering, "What happened to the front trunk if there was one in the center?"

Is the trunk space completely gone from the new GT3RS, or is it Huracan STO?Kodama WatermelonIs there a small space that can fit only a small helmet?

This is the front trunk space of Huracan STO. centerwatermelon bowlOnly part is trunk space.

I'm curious, so I'll check it out.

I was able to confirm from what Mr. Andreas Preuninger, the head of the Porsche GT division, told me in the video of Top Gear.

According to Andreas, by eliminating the left and right radiator parts like in GT3, it became possible to install an aerodynamics module that synchronizes with the rear wing flaps (just below the headlights). .

And the front aerodynamics module, which is perfectly balanced with this rear wing flap, could not be installed if there were radiators on the left and right sides of the front, so they eliminated the left and right.

In other words, according to Mr. Andreas (and how to put it (laughs)), even the way of thinking about the radiator was considered what was necessary for aerodynamics.

However, it seems that it was difficult to produce such an effect in only a small space (= one place in the center) because it physically aggregated three things into one. .

But I did it properly ^^

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has no front trunk space

Then, when the moderator confirmed, "But instead of that, there was no trunk space, right?"... I was able to see the correct answer here.

"Yeah, the trunk space is gone."

It looks like this when you actually open it. There is really no front trunk space.

But Andreas quickly continues, "But look, there's space in the back seat, right?"

He also said, "If you need it, we also sell roof racks, hahaha."

According to Andreas, this front opening isn't the coolest part of the GT3 RS, but it has a purpose and was absolutely necessary to make it work.

GT3 RS front opening part name is boomerang

By the way, it seems that the developers call the part that looks like a black resin part attached to the side of this opening a "boomerang" ^ ^

I won't go into details about the boomerang and radiator aerodynamics, which are very important in the GT3 RS, so I won't go into it this time (Andreas is talking about it in the video), but anyway, it's very important for this GT3 RS. As a result, the front trunk was eliminated in order to install the central radiator, which was very important to the car and could never be removed.

Well, in fact, even if there is no front trunk, in the case of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, even if there is a roll cage in the rear seat (it is not a seat, so you can not actually sit in it, but there is space) until you go to the circuit. I think that I can put a certain amount of luggage, so it doesn't seem to be that much of a problem ^ ^

Here is a video of Andreas talking about Top Gear (34:34).

It is about 23:00 when we talk about the central radiator. ↓
