Lithium-ion battery for Porsche 911 Carrera T (992.1)

Posted: September 2, 2023 Updated:

Lithium-ion battery for weight reduction of Carrera T

It has been rumored for several years that the 992.1 Porsche 911 Carrera T will have a lithium-ion battery to reduce weight.

And when the Carrera T was actually announced, it was announced that the battery was a lithium-ion battery as it was a lightweight battery.

Even before I took delivery of the car, I was having conversations like, ``I heard it uses lithium-ion batteries, right? Are there any advantages other than being easily flammable?'' and ``Well, it's light, isn't it?'' (lol)

so!

This time, I thought that some people might be interested, so here is an image of the Carrera T's lithium-ion battery. Eh, you don't need it (lol)?

This is from the day my Carrera T was delivered. I was allowed to confirm from the moment of delivery ^ ^ (stillHeadlights are not dimmed after deliverysituation! )

Let's open the front part.

That's it here. I understand?

Yes, here is the battery ↓

I had heard that lithium-ion batteries were light, so I thought they would be somehow smaller, but that was not the case.

By the way, it's made in South Korea. Is it made in Korea? ?

MY21 Porsche 911 Cabriolet (992.1) battery

Let's compare.

The 992 Cabriolet I was with on the day the Carrera T was delivered was so difficult that the front was opened (lol).

If you look at the 992.1 base model cabriolet battery, which is not a lithium-ion battery...

It looks like this.

Looking only at the physical size, it feels almost the same as the Carrera T's lithium-ion battery. I haven't been able to feel the actual difference in weight since I haven't held it in my hands.

*By switching from the previous battery to a lithium-ion battery, it is 10 kg lighter :(reference:★ Additional notes ★ Where are the batteries of Porsche 911 Carrera and GT3?)

By the way, this battery is Made in Austria. It was made in Austria.

MY23 Porsche 911 Carrera has no tire filling compressor

Also, when I opened the front, I noticed that the tire filling compressor was missing from the MY23 Carrera T.

Since the cabriolet of 992.1 is MY21, it means that there was a repair kit (tire filling compressor) up to MY21. What about MY22? For the time being, at least it was gone from MY23.

I'd like to write about other things that make the Carrera T lighter, but first I'd like to talk about the lithium-ion battery~^^

★Postscript (2023.9.3)★
In the comments on SNS,European specification GT3TP (MY23)I was told that the 992 Cabriolet above had a filling compressor as usual (thank you ^^).

In other words, the reason why this Carrera T (MY23) did not have a filling compressor was whether it was because of the weight reduction specific to the Carrera T, or whether it was missing in the Japanese specification 911, or whether it was not included in my Carrera T. I just don't have it (lol)?'' I started to want to know.

If I find out anything else, I would like to add it ^^

Oops, new information here.Japanese specification GT3 (MY23)They confirmed that there was no filling compressor (thank you ^^).

Does this mean that the Japanese spec MY23 (or MY22?) 911 is no longer equipped with a filling compressor (the European spec still has it), or the Japanese spec GT3 doesn't have one, but the GT3 TP does. Is there...?

Hmm, I want to know (lol)! I'll update if I find out anything else ^^

This is a photo of MY23 GT3 (Japan) ↓

★Added below (2023.9.7)★

This has nothing to do with the lithium-ion battery, but it is about the hook on the back side of the hood at the top of the front trunk.

Well, you might not know what I'm talking about ^^ For more information on hooks, please see here:★ Additional notes ★ Where are the batteries of Porsche 911 Carrera and GT3?

I received information about this hook saying that it wasn't on the Carrera T and that it was on the MY19 Carrera S, so I was curious, so I checked it out myself. As a result, the MY21 992.1 Cabriolet had an orange hook ↓

However, MY23's 992.1 Carrera T still had a place to hang the hook, but did not have the hook itself↓Is this...a secret weight reduction...(lol)?
