Record-breaking at Shanghai International Circuit
On October 16, 2024, Porsche development driver Lars Kern set the fastest lap time for a production car at the Shanghai International Circuit, a time of 2:11.28.
The vehicle that set the record was Porsche's fully electric Taycan, the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach Package.
Kevin Giek, vice president of the Porsche Taycan model line, said that while every race circuit offers its own unique challenges, Porsche set out to break records on three completely different tracks around the world to demonstrate just how accomplished the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package is.
As a result, top times were recorded in the Eifel region of Germany, California in the US, and now Shanghai in China.

Taycan Turbo GT reaches a top speed of 300 km/h
During this challenge in Shanghai, light rain fell several times, so the course remained a little damp until the end.
Nevertheless, the Taycan Turbo GT proved its true worth on the course, with the speedometer hitting exactly 300 km/h at its top speed.
Furthermore, the attack mode (boost function) demonstrates its performance.
When used, it can apply an additional 120kW of power for 10 seconds, and is available when the speed is above 5km/h, the battery temperature is above 10°C, and the SoC (remaining battery charge) is 30% or higher.
For safety reasons, the car was equipped with a roll cage and racing bucket seats during this run, which increased the overall weight even with some of the interior removed.
In addition, optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires were used for the lap record.

Apparently he recorded the fastest lap times at three circuits in different parts of the world, and his original goal was to "break records at three courses around the world", but now that he's broken that record, he's probably still going to keep challenging himself, aiming for a fourth course...or maybe?
