Porsche Taycan wins UK award for fifth consecutive year, Taycan Turbo GT sets drag race record

This time, two announcements were made regarding the Porsche Taycan, so I would like to take a look.

What Car? Maintaining top spot in electric car awards

Porsche's electric car, the Taycan, has won the Best Electric Performance Car award from the UK's What Car? magazine for the fifth consecutive year.

In addition, it also won the Best Used Electric Performance Car award for 2025.

Steve Huntingford, editor-in-chief of What Car?, praised the Taycan, saying, "Not only is it the best electric car you can buy, it's one of the best performing cars out there."

The Taycan, which won the Best Used Electric Performance Car award, was highly praised for its combination of modern comfort and dynamic handling, and it comes with a 111-point inspection and a 24-month warranty from Porsche, so you can rest assured even after purchasing. *This was a press release in the UK, so please check the applicable regulations in Japan.

Taycan Turbo GT sets Australian quarter-mile record at Sydney Dragway

In other news, it was announced that Porsche's new Taycan Turbo GT set a quarter-mile race record at Sydney Dragway in Australia.

The Taycan Turbo GT completed this drag race (1/4 mile race) in a record-breaking time of 9.083.

The car reportedly reached a top speed of 252.04 km/h, the fastest time ever recorded by an unmodified production car on an Australian drag strip.

The speed exceeded the strict speed limits set by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), which allows competition at most of Australia's major drag strips. Normally, all vehicles exceeding 241.4km/h are required to wear parachutes.

In other words, the speed reached a level that would normally require a parachute. ...Hmm? But maybe this speed wasn't anticipated?

The Taycan Turbo GT's launch control allows it to deliver up to 760kW of overboost power, delivering a burst of 815kW for two seconds. This performance puts it at the forefront of Porsche's electrification.

If he were to attempt it again, I wonder if he would wear a parachute next time?

There's been a lot of talk about the Taycan, but given Porsche's current situation, it's all very complicated.
As long as Oliver Blume is CEO of VW, I feel like they will continue to focus on EVs even if the CEO of Porsche is replaced. I wonder if they will use the same platform for both ICE and EVs like BMW, rather than just EVs. This is because we are in a transitional period of electrification.
Even when I went to the PC, there was only one 992 and one Cayenne on display, as well as three Taycans and two Macan EVs...

Outside, 992.2 GTS owners, like RIKA, are complaining about the slow boost ramp, and it seems everyone feels the same way. Since the manufacturer sets the torque limiter, there's nothing we can do without coding the DME, but it varies from car to car. One reason is that DCT (PDK) systems don't have the torque amplification of automatics, but is low-speed torque being reduced every year? The Macan GTS is also completely different between the 2022 and my 2024 model, with boost almost zero when driving around town. BMW's 2024 X1 (DCT) with 300 PS was like a 35 GT-R rocket, but what about the 2025 X3 (AT) with 400 PS?
The sound is quite loud when you turn it on, but even a Ferrari is quieter when it starts up. Is the EV Taycan a rocket?
