This is the first of a series of various lectures on cars that Porsche has offered during the period when Porsche is refraining from going out to prevent coronavirus infection.

That's how to clean the steering wheel of Alcantara here.

The instructor who teaches is Richard Tipper, one of the influencers who is currently having a big influence on cars.

Let's take a look.

How to revive Alcantara steering

  • This question is asked more than anything else. Alcantara is an artificially made material made of many small piles and fibers.
  • This pile will flatten due to sweat from the driver's hands and continuous use.
  • Over time, Alcantara may appear to be worn out, but it's just the condensation of grease. Therefore, the grease should be removed and the pile should be replaced.
  • Use a fabric cleaner (any fabric cleaner you use, but preferably one for cars). Spray it on the steering wheel by 1/4 of the whole.
  • Don't spray too much. If the steering wheel gets very wet, Alcantara will become brittle (fragile) when it is dried later.
  • Wrap the 1/4 spray with microfiber moistened with warm water, and twist the microfiber to start the work.
  • Be conscious of transferring dirt to the microfiber, and imagine twisting the grip of the bike to do so.
  • In the unlikely event that there is a worse part, such as where your thumb is touching, wrap the microfiber with one finger and concentrate on that part to remove dirt.
  • Then use dry microfiber to remove as much moisture as possible. Rub the steering wheel to regain the fluffy feeling.
  • Now, leave the car for a few hours to dry the steering wheel.
  • Once dry, brush the steering wheel again with a clean toothbrush to regain the softness of Alcantara's steering wheel.
  • This method can be applied not only to steering but also to Alcantara in other parts. However, be careful with the nozzles of plastic vacuum cleaners. This can result in a line in Alcantara.
  • The final tip is to check the scent of the product before using the fabric cleaner. The scent inside the car can become the scent of the cleaner, so you should check in advance whether you can tolerate the scent.

That's how Richard Tipper teaches you how to care for your Alcantara handle.

At the very end, it seems irrelevant how to clean Alcantara, but I laughed when he talked about the scent of the cleaner, which may actually be important (laughs).

Sure, if you can't stand the scent of a cleaner, it's the worst if it turns into the scent of your car (at least for a while). It's like choosing a fabric softener when washing ^^

Even so, when I was taught this way, I'm having a lot of time now, and I feel like "I want to wash the handle of Alcantara, which is a little worn out, and revive it!"

If you are already tired of Alcantara, please give it a try. I hope it will be revived ~ ^^

I ... maybe I should go to the nearby Porsche Center and say "Let me wash it!" Oh no, it was a period of refraining from going out. Well, I want to try it!

Then, Mr. Richard Tipper will continue to the next lecture ~ → Clean the wheels like a pro
