Porsche 911 rear window heating element
Not only Porsche, but many models from various manufacturers and manufacturers often have a heating wire that acts as a defroster (a wire that heats the rear glass to defog it).
This is what it looks like in a Porsche 911.
These are the heating wires attached to the rear window, and you can see that there are horizontal lines across the glass.

The other day, when I went to Porsche Center Takanawa Koishikawa, a nice Targa was on display, but my husband's impression after looking at this car (?) was ...

"Hey, aren't the heating wires on this rear window vertical?"
It was that.
fart?
At first I didn't understand what he was saying, but when I looked closely after he explained it, I realized that it wasn't the horizontal heating wire I was used to seeing, but rather a thin vertical line!! ↓

I understand?
The rear window of the Targa has heating lines (defrost lines) that look like a series of fine dotted vertical lines.
It's not the horizontal line you often see.

Wow, that's true! I thought, and checked my own Porsches.
I wondered what model had the thin vertical heating lines on the rear window. While talking with the Porsche Center staff, I came up with a hypothesis:
- Targa (from 992 model)
- For lightweight glass (from 992 model)
I came to the conclusion that this might be the case, so I first checked the rear of my 992.1 Carrera T.
Well, I have a very dark film on the rear of my Carrera T, so the scenery is reflected and I can't see very well (lol)

But if you make the effort to get closer, look, look!!
As expected, the rear heating element of the lightweight glass of the 992 Carrera T has the same fine vertical lines as the 992 Targa!

By the way, there was a Carrera T of the same era at the Porsche Center, so I took a look at that as well.

Yes, this is easier to understand, it's a thin vertical line after all.

Next, if you check the 992.1 type 911 Cabriolet, which does not have lightweight glass, you will see that it also has horizontal lines.

As I thought without even checking, the 997 GT3 also has horizontal lines ↓ The photo was taken a while ago, so don't worry about the candy curls inside the car (lol).

This time, we haven't been able to check the actual car, such as the 992 GT3, which uses lightweight glass, but perhaps it also has vertical lines?
By the way, I dug up some old photos and checked, and the rear of the 991.2 GT3 we had at home had a "horizontal line" ↓

I think this is probably due to a change in the rear window heating element for the 992 Targa and the lightweight glass from the 992 model.
It's interesting to notice things you never noticed before.
I'm sure there are many people who have not noticed even if they are driving a model that uses Targa or lightweight glass from the 992 model. If you are interested, please check it out the next time you drive.
Not that there's any big deal in knowing this, but ever since I started to wonder about it, I've been staring at the heat rays on the rear of Porsches (lol).
And there was one more thing I noticed, which I will continue next time, but first, the fact is that, actually... what a surprise!
In the case of the 718, the 718 GT4 RS rear window did not have a heating element at all. This is also a shocking fact!
So, to be continued ^^
