Porsche 911 GT3 RS engine with MT: GT3 RS feeling for public roads, not for circuits
On August 2, 2023, the "Porsche 911 S/T", a special model commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911, was announced.
First of all, I was a little surprised that at the stage of rumors, I thought it would be a "Porsche 911 ST", but in fact it is a "Porsche 911 S/T" with a slash (/) between S and T. (There?).
Now, I would like to see what was announced ^^
What is the Porsche 911 S/T?
- A special model designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911
- Limited production of 1,963 units
- Weissach engineers pursued the pleasure of driving as a sports car for purists
- Combines the best of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package for a unique combination of agility and driving dynamics
- The engine is a 4.0-liter horizontally opposed naturally aspirated (NA) engine from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with a maximum horsepower of 525PS (386kW).
- Manual transmission (short ratio MT), 6-speed adopted for the first time in spite of RS engine
- Complemented by an extremely lightweight construction and a running gear set-up optimized for agility and maneuverability
- Weighs just 1,380kg (DIN, including all fluids), making it the lightest model in the 992 generation
- The optional Heritage Design package is inspired by racing versions of the Porsche 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970s
- The design of the 911 S/T incorporates Porsche's GT and motorsport expertise, designed to maximize driving enjoyment on twisty country roads, reflected in particularly agile and agile handling.
- Ensures dynamic responsiveness by reducing rotating mass in engine, wheels and brakes
- The S/T responds instantly to the driver's commands, every steering movement and every pressure applied to the accelerator or brake is immediately and accurately reflected.
- Unlike the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the development of the Porsche 911 S/T is focused on road use rather than track use.
Porsche 911 S/T, descendant of the 1960 Porsche 911 S (internal name 911 ST)
- The name 911 S/T for this particular model indicates that it is a descendant of a particularly performance-oriented version of the original 911.
- Since 1969 Porsche has offered a special version of the 911 S, which was called "911 ST" within Porsche
- Improved acceleration, braking, traction and cornering grip thanks to chassis, wheels, engine and body improvements
- Large spoilers and other aerodynamic aids were not yet available on these models.
- The new 911 S/T carries on the spirit of the original 911 S (ST) and carries it over to the current model generation Porsche 911.
- The 911 S/T combines elements of the 911 GT3 RS with the body of the 911 GT3 TP, with the addition of lightweight components specially developed for the 911 S/T packaged.
- The result is a unique driving experience within the 911 GT portfolio.
Lightweight construction: fender to clutch
- The 911 S/T is particularly agile and direct handling thanks to its consistent lightweight design
- The front bonnet, roof, front wings (front fenders) and doors with striking inlets are made of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).
- The roll cage, anti-roll bar on the rear axle and the shear panel (reinforcing element on the rear axle) are also made of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).
- Standard specifications include magnesium wheels, PCCB, lithium-ion starter battery, lightweight glass and lightweight sports exhaust.
- Reduced insulation, no rear-axle steering and a lighter powertrain result in a curb weight of just 1,380 kg (DIN standard), which is 40 kg lighter than the 911 GT3 TP(MT).
- Porsche develops new lightweight clutch for 911 S/T engine
- Rotating mass weight reduced by 10.5kg when combined with a single-mass flywheel
- As a result, the responsiveness of the NA horizontally opposed engine is significantly improved, and the rotation speed increases with a particularly powerful speed and direct feeling.
- Combined with a 6-speed manual transmission with a shorter gear ratio (closer ratio) than the 911 GT3, the high-revving engine of the 911 S/T further enhances the immediacy of dynamics.
- 911 S/T 0-100km in just 3.7 seconds
- Maximum speed is 300km/h
- The exhilarating driving experience is further enhanced by the standard lightweight sports exhaust.
- The 911 S/T is the only 911 model of the current generation that combines a double wishbone front axle and a multi-link rear axle without rear axle steering.
- The dampers and control system have been adjusted accordingly.
- The aerodynamics of the 911 S/T are also optimized for public roads rather than circuits

No ~ Even so, this 911 S / T is very lightweight.
If I am someone who wants a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, this 911 S / T, which is said to be "positioned as a GT3 RS for public roads", will resonate with me. In the first place, I don't need RS-level performance, so I would like to dream of the day when I can see a real car that someone has purchased somewhere someday ^ ^
Even so, it is limited to 1,963 units.
It is a model that is likely to become a competitive battle all over the world again. I hope it will be delivered to those who really want it!
