Mattel's deal with Ferrari has ended
Many people are probably familiar with Mattel's Hot Wheels, a collection of die-cast miniature cars.
I didn't know this, but Mattel's exclusive licensing contract with Ferrari expired 10 years ago (in 2014) and they have not renewed the contract, so Mattel has not made any Ferrari miniature cars for the past 10 years.
I had assumed that it was something that was normally served, so I was surprised.
...So what I'm trying to say is that, perhaps because they can't make Ferraris, Mattel seems to be focusing on Porsches, and apparently they have already produced over 50 Porsche models.
Mattel Hot Wheels RLC (Red Line Club)
There's one more thing I learned this time.
There is something called "RLC" in Hot Wheels. What is it? RLC...or more accurately, it is a premium membership system for Hot Wheels collectors called Red Line Club. I didn't know that.
There is an annual membership fee, but you get some great benefits, such as the ability to purchase special edition Hot Wheels cars that are only available to RLC members, advance information, and access to exclusive content.
This limited edition model, sold exclusively to RLC members, is said to be of higher quality and more detail than regular Hot Wheels products, making it an extremely valuable item for collectors.
The Porsche Gulf 993 GT2, which was sold exclusively at RLC around 2016, is said to have seen a massive increase in value, with some people selling a set of four for $10,000.
There are also other models such as the RWB930 which costs $1,500 (about 230,000 yen).
RLC Hot Wheels:Porsche 959 Spectraflame steel blue
...As an RLC limited edition car that is likely to be extremely valuable in the future, a new model in the Porsche 959's Spectraflame Steel Blue color will go on sale at 9:00 AM PT on November 12, 2024 (2:00 AM Japan time on November 13, 2024).
It certainly is beautiful just looking at the photos, but it's a little different from the Hot Wheels we usually see.
This is a mystery as it has already been put up for pre-sale at overseas auctions for around $80 before it even goes on sale, but if you are able to purchase it as an RLC member, it will cost $25 (excluding tax) per unit (approximately 3,800 yen), and you can purchase up to two units per person.
We have good news for those who think, "Oh no, it's too late to become a member now!"
That's because a "Gulf Racing color version" of this steel blue Porsche 959 is apparently coming out next year, so if you become an RLC member now, it might be possible to get your hands on a Gulf Racing colored 959 ^^??
