The other day, some of my friends were going to enjoy a driving program at the Porsche Experience Center Tokyo (PEC Tokyo), so I joined them for lunch that day.
I parked my car in the parking lot and first looked around.
...That's because, since the location is PEC Tokyo, depending on the time and situation, you might see Porsches parked there that you wouldn't normally see, or you might even see a car belonging to someone you know parked there ^^
Looking around the parking lot that day, something was clearly different about the scene.
Yes, there's a row of incredibly impressive Porsches lined up in the back.
What is that?
Hmm, those are Cayenne Electrics. They're the fully electric Cayennes.
A whole row of Cayenne EVs lined up – quite a sight.
Both cars had subdued, sophisticated body colors, which suited the Cayenne perfectly, making them both look very cool.
"It's not often you get to see so many Cayenne EVs all at once," I thought to myself, chuckling to myself as I headed towards the entrance of PEC Tokyo and entered the building.
When I stepped inside, I was greeted by a scene completely different from the PEC Tokyo I was always familiar with.
What is this?
There was a mark on the floor that looked like someone had time-traveled to the future.
The world of PEC Tokyo has changed with various designs, and it really felt like I had entered a completely new facility, making me wonder, "Wait, where exactly am I today?"
The reason why PEC Tokyo ended up like this is...
This was because the Japan premiere of the Cayenne Electric had just taken place here at PEC Tokyo in early July.
Actually, I had already seen images of the Japan premiere of the new Cayenne EV in the news and such, but when I first saw it, I thought, "Where did this premiere take place? Where is the venue?"
But upon closer inspection, it turned out to be PEC Tokyo.
The press conference for the Japan premiere was held from this stage located in the center of the 1st floor of PEC Tokyo ↓
Honestly, I was really surprised by how different it was from the usual PEC Tokyo.
PEC Tokyo was completely dominated by the Cayenne EV.
Even after my visit to PEC Tokyo, there were still events scheduled to unveil and test drive the Cayenne EV, so PEC Tokyo was essentially a Cayenne EV festival for a while.
It turned out to be a day where I unexpectedly got to see plenty of Cayenne EVs.
While admiring the Cayenne EV decorations at PEC Tokyo, I then hurried off to see what the people participating in the driving program were up to.
It hurt.
On this day, someone I know was driving a GT4 RS and a manual transmission version of the GT3 Touring Package.
From above, the cars were amazing, and the noise was incredible, but these two were unusually fast, and I couldn't help but laugh as I watched. They were so cool!
After completing their driving program, we met up and headed to Restaurant 906 inside PEC Tokyo.
There was a magazine lying there.
I'd never seen or heard of this before, but it seems to be called "Porsche Experience Magazine," and they had the 2024 edition there.
What's amazing about this magazine is that when you look inside, you'll find a comic strip about PEC Tokyo.
I didn't have time to read it this time, so I only glanced at it, but if you have the time, you might find it interesting to take a closer look.
I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Restaurant 906, as always.
If a hamburger is on the menu, I can't help but order it...
We had a wonderful time chatting about all sorts of Porsche-related topics over lunch.
It's truly a blessing to be able to hear various stories from people who have deep knowledge and experience with Porsches. It's always stimulating and very enjoyable (of course, I also enjoy conversations that aren't directly related to Porsches ^^).
After chatting for quite some time, we decided it was time to head home, and as we left the PEC Tokyo building... huh?
Huh??
Cars that weren't parked there when I first arrived are now parked there.
And what's more... could it be...
Porsche 911 GT3 AltiIsn't this the Zan Edition?!
I never imagined I'd encounter the actual car here of all places. What an amazing coincidence!
A rare model, limited to only 30 units in Japan.
I didn't know there was a GT3 in a place like this!
Seeing a car in person is completely different from seeing it in a photograph.
One thing that surprised me was that the design of this Artisan Edition was, unexpectedly, a sticker-like decal.
Why did they make this a decal...?(The base price is a rather high 53.57 million yen, but it's not just painted or anything.)..
There was one more thing I wanted to check if I could see the actual vehicle, and they showed it to me.
This is it, located on the underside of this magnificent wing.
The handwritten text reads, "Engineered in Flacht, Sharpened in Meuspath, Built for Japan."
It was there.
I like these kinds of hidden characters ^^ It's fun when you find them.
I also noticed that the driving mode switch inside the car was colored in the Japanese flag's colors (white with a red circle), although I couldn't photograph it outside because of the reflection through the glass.
The rear wheels feature aero discs with a modern interpretation of the "Nanako" and "Yarai" patterns found in Edo Kiriko glasswork.
Inspired by the colors of indigo dyeing, this model was beautiful, with the blues from the indigo dyeing standing out beautifully against the white, which was the main color of the body.
I'm grateful for this chance encounter!
And so, I left PEC Tokyo, seen off by these three wonderful cars.
I am very grateful that PEC Tokyo exists as a place where I can easily gather and chat with everyone who has connected through Porsche, and where I can encounter wonderful Porsches.
Oh, that's right, lastly, this one.
This is a record of the growth of the Somei Yoshino cherry trees in the parking lot of PEC Tokyo, which I check every time I come to PEC Tokyo.
The leaves have grown quite lush and green, and I can really see how much it's grown. I can't wait for the day when it becomes a large tree and produces an abundance of beautiful, impressive cherry blossoms.
I hope to live long enough to see this tree grow into a big, strong one, and continue visiting PEC Tokyo!
