A new open-world racing game from Maverick Games
While many recent racing games are new installments in existing series, the game "Clutch," which was recently announced for release in 2027, is a completely new game that is not part of any existing series.
Announced in 2024 as a "story-driven open-world driving game," Amazon Games was initially involved as the publisher, but has since withdrawn from the project and is now being sold by an independent publisher.
Developer Maverick Games was founded in 2022 by Mike Brown, former creative director of Forza Horizon, and many of its staff come from Playground Games, the developer of Horizon, and veteran racing game developer Codemasters.
According to Mike, the theme of Clutch is "the love of driving," and it was developed using Unreal Engine 5.
The story is set in the French Riviera and was written by Jamie Brittain, co-creator of the drama series "Skins."
The story centers around a brother and sister, racing prodigies competing in the fictional R1K Championship, a prestigious racing series. They also become involved with the "Midnight Collective," a loosely organized group of enthusiasts that organizes illegal street races.
The contrast between legal and illegal races is a theme seen in previous racing games, so it's said that 'Clutch' will likely be compared to the 'Forza Horizon' series.
However, this Clutch, unlike Horizon, seems to emphasize the underworld aspect more.
Furthermore, it seems that the in-game gadgets also play an important role, as one video showed a Nissan Skyline GT-R using a grappling hook to make tight turns around a lamppost.
The Porsche 911 GT3 S/C has also made an appearance.
Based on the footage released so far, the cars that appear in the game are:

- Nissan
- Subaru
- Alfa Romeo

- Lotus
It seems that many officially licensed models from manufacturers like these will be released.
Among all the cars featured in this game, the one that deserves the most attention is undoubtedly the Porsche 911 GT3 S/C.
That was quick to appear! I think this might be the first time the GT3 S/C has appeared in a game.
You can put drinks in the cup holders and your hoodie on the passenger seat.
According to Mike, Clutch will set a "new standard" for car customization, and the announced features include not only the ability to select the car's factory specifications, but also a wide range of aftermarket parts, as well as personalization options such as putting coffee in the cup holder, decorating the dashboard, placing receipts and parking tickets (!), and even putting a hoodie in the passenger seat (lol)...
Furthermore, older cars may show some wear and tear or damage, the interior trim may be a little dusty, and the leather seats may have a slightly glossier finish than new cars—it seems that even "the traces of wear and tear, the traces of affection, the traces of a car that has actually been driven and gone on adventures" are expressed.
The fact that you can even change the drink you put in the cup holder means you can really express your own lifestyle and personality through your car, doesn't it?
At this point, all that's known is that the release is planned for 2027 and that it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S and X.
