The defroster switch on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS isn't actually connected to anything!

Well, in my last blog I wrote about the defroster lines (heat lines) on the rear window of the Porsche 911, and how some have recently changed from the traditional horizontal lines to vertical lines.

Reference article:The Porsche 911 rear window heating stripes had both horizontal and vertical lines.

As a result, I started to wonder about the various heating lines on the rear, so I thought, "Oh, the rear window of the 718 Cayman GT4RS is also made of lightweight glass, so it must also have vertical lines," and I immediately went to check it out.

let's see….

Hmm?

What?

Huh?!

What, what, what, what.

The GT4 RS rear window had no vertical or even horizontal lines. Nothing!

After I noticed that there was no heating element on the rear window, the next thing that came to mind was, of course, this.

It's here in the car.

Yes, this is the rear window defroster switch.

There is a switch that is clearly marked as a defroster, and when you press it, an orange light even comes on, as if to say, ``The switch is on!''

But.

If you press this switch and then touch the rear glass after a while, the glass is still cold.

That's true, there's no heat ray (lol).

So I thought maybe it wasn't actually a heat wire, but rather a vent nearby that was blowing warm air towards the glass, but of course there was nothing like that.

So I looked into it because I was curious, and wow. I found a statement in the Porsche configurator that said, "Rear screen made of lightweight glass without heating."

In other words, a lightweight glass rear window without heating function.

So there's no heating function after all?!

So I was curious as to what the switch that even turns on the light does, so I checked with the Porsche Center and a friend who is a Porsche mechanic, and it turns out that the switch doesn't actually do anything (lol).

It would be more expensive to modify the 718 console just for the GT4RS, so the 718 console is basically left as it is (since the regular 718 has a defroster), which is why the GT4RS also has this defrost switch.

However, in reality, even if you turn this switch on, it is not connected to anything, so it does nothing, which is quite surprising: in the 718 Cayman GT4RS, it is actually a switch that does nothing.

Wow, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It seems like such a simple switch was installed as a matter of course. Hahaha.

This new discovery made me think the GT4 RS was even more adorable (why? lol).
