Porsche Taycan Turbo GT sets new lap record for the fourth time and on the fourth continent

By the way, the official name of the Interlagos Circuit is Autodrome José Carlos Pace, and it is the venue for Brazil's F1 and FIA Endurance Championship (WEC), and is a world-famous circuit where Ayrton Senna raced.

The current record was set by three-time IMSA champion and three-time Daytona 24 Hours winner Felipe Nasr, who set a time of 1:42.1 at the 4.3km Interlagos Circuit on February 5, 2025.

This new lap time not only shaves nearly eight seconds off the 1:49.8 recorded by the Taycan Turbo S in 2022, but is also just under a second faster than the previous production lap record of 1:43.087 set by the 911 Turbo S.

When Attack mode was used on the uphill section in front of "Curva do Café" just before the main straight, the Taycan Turbo GT reached a speed of 272 km/h by the end of the corner.

According to a driver from the Porsche Penske Motorsports team, the Taycan Turbo GT's steering is extremely precise even in low-speed corners, and it remains stable even when braking suddenly, making it a truly performance machine in terms of balance and grip.

The goal of setting a new record was to demonstrate the strengths of the new Taycan model series in time for its debut in the Brazilian market.

Where next?

Now that the Taycan Turbo GT has set a record on its fourth continent, I think Porsche is still hoping to set records on other continents.

There are three continents left: Africa, Oceania, and Antarctica.

I think there will be some attempts to set new records in Africa and Oceania, but the most difficult continent is Antarctica, because there is no circuit there (laughs).

For Antarctica, it might be stated as "Taycan Turbo GT breaks Guinness record for ice drifting in Antarctica," but it might also be stated as "Taycan Turbo GT sets records on all seven continents."
