The Rudi Klein Collection
The Rudi Klein collection will be auctioned by RM Sotheby's in October 2024. This is apparently a junkyard.
Junkyard...meaning a place where junk is stored, like a junkyard.
This was apparently a junkyard in Los Angeles, USA, and was owned by a man named Rudi.
He immigrated to the United States in the 1950s and started a scrap yard for European cars (the place we're visiting), which he said was fairly successful.
He later passed away in 2001.
Since then, Rudy's family has left the place untouched, and there are many European cars in this junkyard waiting to be restored, or at least for their parts to be used.
RM Sotheby's has not yet released details (as of August 24, 2024), but judging from the photos released, it appears that there will be many valuable cars on display, including a Porsche 356, multiple Lamborghini Miuras, and a rare Mercedes.
The cars in the photo are, for example:
1935 Mercedes-Benz 500 K 'Caracciola' Special Coupe by Sindelfingen
According to foreign media, this car will be the highlight of the auction.
RM Sotheby's has also described it as "one of the most famous pre-war Mercedes-Benzes."
1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 'Alloy' Gullwing
This is one of 29 alloy Gaulwings made, and the only one painted black. It doesn't look black in the photo, but maybe it's not?
1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster
This early Roadster was originally equipped with a red exterior, cream interior, and Rudge wheels.
1939 Horch 855 Special Roadster
According to RM Sotheby's, this is the only 855 in existence.
1967 Iso Grifo A3/L Spider Prototype by Bertone
This is another gem in the collection and is the only Iso Grifo convertible ever made.
1961 Porsche 356 B 1600 'Twin-Grille' Roadster by d'leteren
The collection includes several Porsche 356s, but this particular one has only 600 miles (about 965 km).
Rudy's collection is unique and will live on for generations, making it an irresistible collection for collectors.
Until now, the existence of this junkyard collection being auctioned has only been a rumor, or something whispered about among enthusiasts, but now it's officially been announced as an auction, so it's likely that many people will be interested in purchasing it.
A complete online catalogue of the collection is scheduled to be released in September 2024.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much this auction will cost.
