The Porsche 911 has a pen holder in the glove box

It's been seven years since I first encountered Porsche.

For the long period of seven years now, I've been driving a 911 almost every day, except when I'm traveling.

But, hmm.

As expected, there were still many things I didn't know. As expected of 9/11, they gave me various information little by little... (No, I was just ignorant).

There was a place to put a pen in the glove compartment.

As the title suggests, the discovery this time was that "there is a pen holder in the glove box of a 911."

Did you know? I had opened the glove box many times before but I didn't notice it.

First up is the newest 992.1 Porsche 911 Carrera T in our home. It's a 2023 model.

The glove box is here.

When you open it, you will see a protrusion at the front of the side that opens up. This is the pen holder.

At the time, I had a SARASA (pen) with me, which is a representative type of pen that can be purchased in Japan, so I first tried to see if I could attach the SARASA to the pen holder.

It looks like it's attached, right? But it's not there. It's just sitting on top.

The reason is that the holder is not made of rubber but is made of a very hard material, so it seems a little difficult to push it in from the top, and even if I try to insert it from the side...

There are small walls on either side of this holder, so the length of the SARASA pen meant that it got in the way and I couldn't slide it in from the side.

Even if you could slide it sideways, the thickness of the SARASA seems too big and you probably wouldn't be able to fit more than the tip of a pen in.

I didn't have any other thin pens, but I had a touch pen for my smartphone, so I tried using that this time for reference.

By the way, this touch pen can be bought at a 100 yen store, and here is how it compares to the thickness and length of the SARASA pen:

Wow. As expected, it fits perfectly with this short and thin case. I think I can store a touch pen in here.

Pen holder for Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (992.1)

Next, we'll take a look at the 992.1 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, the 2021 model.

Well, I wonder. Maybe.

When I opened it, oh my, there it was.

This one also has a recessed area with a pen holder, so there are walls on both sides. I guess the 992.1 is this type.

SARASA is also not included.

Next up, let's take a look at the 992.1 Porsche 911 Carrera, which is a bit wet after a bit of a rainy run. This is the 2017 model.

Since it's a different generation from the 992.1, I wonder if the pen holder is different too?

It's not like it's inside a recess, but rather just a pen holder attached to the front of the side that opens normally.

Well, SARASA still won't be included.

Since there were no walls nearby, I was able to try inserting the SARASA from the side, but I couldn't push it in any further as I was worried it would damage the holder.

In the first place, it doesn't seem to support pens as thin as SARASA. Are pens commonly used in Germany thin?

Finally, here is the glove box of a 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3. This one is a 2007 model, so it's pretty old.

I wonder if it's available in the 997 too.

No...no!

No matter where I looked in the glove box, I couldn't find anything resembling a pen holder.

So, the 911 pen holder is:

• It started with the 991 generation
• Was it in 991.1? Or was it from 991.2?
• Well, maybe the 997 has it too, but it's not there because it's a GT3?

And so on…

Well, finally, I was curious so of course I looked into it.

What I was looking for was, "Are there any pens that would fit into the pen holder in the glove box of a Porsche 911?"

And then I discovered that this Porsche pen fits perfectly.

HereThis item is listed on eBay by Beverly Hills Automobilia, a shop in Beverly Hills.However, it appears to have originally been an original product (product code: WDM-J21-000-1).

But it seems like it's no longer officially sold.

Judging from the photo, it doesn't appear to be much different in thickness from the SARASA, but the product information on eBay states that it fits into a pen holder and there is a photo of it.

Yep, it's calmed down.

If you know that there is a Porsche pen that fits perfectly in such a 911 pen holder, you will want to try it out.

*By the way, it seems that the latest Porsche Lifestyle pen currently on sale won't fit in it (I don't know if this is true, so someone should try it out (hoping for help)).
