Reports of EV718 development struggling
Automotive News Europe is run by the same parent company as German-speaking media outlet "Automobilwoche' reports that Porsche is having problems developing the fully electric 718.
Development is apparently significantly behind schedule, which could mean the release of the 718EV will also be significantly delayed.
The cause of the delay is thought to be the mid-mounted battery, which Porsche has been requesting constant adjustments from its supplier, Valmet Automotive.
Valmet Automotive is doing as asked, but there are additional costs to meet the request, and Porsche doesn't want to pay that amount... or it's only paying a portion of it.
It's been at least two years since spy shots of the EV718 first started to be taken, but it still seems like they won't be ready in time for 2025, and the chances of immediately replacing gasoline-powered vehicles with EVs are becoming even lower.
However, due to cyber security regulationsThe 718 is no longer in production in Europe. It seems that the current 718 (petrol) model won't last very long either.Sales will end worldwide when production ends mid-next year.).
So, it's reported that there may be a gap between the end of the gasoline 718 and the release of the EV 718.
Next-generation Cayenne also delayed: Three-row Cayenne may appear
Not only that, but Automobilwoche reports that the next-generation electric Cayenne may also be delayed from its originally planned 2026 debut.
Porsche has already abandoned its original goal of making every 80% of new car sales EV by 2030, and has pledged to maintain the V8 engine for the next 10 years.
Given Porsche's current slowdown in EV sales, the Panamera could potentially be getting a new model with an internal combustion engine.
And thenCodename: "K1"The launch of an electric SUV that will be larger than the Cayenne, called the 2020, may also be delayed by several years.
Instead, it has been reported that the company is considering extending the Cayenne platform to develop a three-row SUV with a gasoline engine.
With the release of the three-row Cayenne and EV sales sluggish, I'm not sure if I should say that there isn't really much demand for the K1 anymore (laughs).
