Porsche's Cayenne EV wins Top Gear's Technology Award and is named one of Newsweek's most anticipated new cars of 2026

Top Gear's wireless charging option wins technology award

At the end of last year,TopGear.com US car awards for 2026As part of its 2019 awards, Top Gear selected the wireless charging solution announced for Porsche's new Cayenne EV for the TG Tech Award.

Marques Brownlee of Top Gear US has seen the technology in action.

This technology is expected to be available as a customer option in the second half of 2026 (in the US), but it is not yet known when it will be introduced in Japan.

By the way, the price of this wireless charging plate in the United States is about $8,000 (about 1.25 million yen at today's exchange rate).

Top Gear editor-in-chief Jack Rix said, "This award recognizes breakthroughs in automotive technology that bring tangible, positive benefits to the user experience," and praised the new wireless charging system for the Cayenne EV.

It's certainly great in terms of convenience that you can charge your car hands-free by simply parking it on the floor plate.(If it works properly...)..

This new award, the most anticipated new car of the coming year, is only in its second year, and is based on a combination of Newsweek reader interest and the expertise of Newsweek's editorial team, measuring new cars that will hit the market in 2026.

In addition to the internal combustion engine and hybrid models, the Porsche Cayenne will soon be available to order as a fully electric model.

You can create your own Cayenne by combining 13 standard colors, 9 wheel designs, and 12 interior options. Since the configurator was released in the United States in late November 2025, more than 200,000 configurations have already been created as of mid-December 2025.
