How about a road-legal Porsche 962 for just under 200 million yen?

Posted: Posted:

You can buy a car that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Currently available for sale is the Porsche 962C Kremer (chassis CK6-88).

Usually, these "amazing Porsches" are often put up for auction, but what's amazing about this car is that it's not being put up for auction but is being "sold", so you can buy it if you say "I'll buy it!"

The price is £999,950.

It depends on the exchange rate of the pound, but if you calculate it at 188 yen, it would be about 188 million yen. Even if you include shipping and other expenses, you can probably buy it for just under 200 million yen.

I can't decide if this price is cheap or expensive...

Porsche 962C Kremer

Founded in the 1960s, Kremer Racing built a reputation as a privateer team by developing cars such as the 935 K3, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979, and in 1982 produced the CK5, based on the Porsche 936.

Later, based on the 962C, a unique chassis called the "CK6" was developed that used an aluminum honeycomb structure, and this is said to be the most successful privately made 962C.

The car being sold, CK6-88, competed in the World Sports Prototype Championship, Interserie and World Challenge in the 1988 season.

With Kris Nissen at the wheel, the car won at the Hungaroring, before going on to win consecutive races at Hockenheim and Wunstorf. At Le Mans in 1988, while Jaguar took the overall victory, this car, driven by Kunimitsu Takahashi, Hideki Okada and Bruno Giocomelli, finished 9th overall.

At the end of the season in a race held in Tampa, USA, the Andrettis father and son team finished in 6th place.

The car was then acquired by an American collector in 1990, and arrived in the UK in 2009, where it attracted attention when driven by Derek Bell at the Le Mans Classic and Goodwood.

In recent years, it has been modified to be road-legal and will be registered in the UK in 2022.

There is also an episode where the car was driven home under its own power after running at the Goodwood event.

Of course, this car will be eligible to compete in a number of historic racing events, including the Le Mans Classic and the 2025 Masters Group C Series.

With a comprehensive record and spare parts, this car is said to be extremely valuable as a collection item.

The current owner is Joe Maraci, who purchased this car several years ago.

Joe Maraci has taken this 750 horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six race car and converted it into a road-legal car with the help of British manufacturer BBM Sport.

Upgrades include a handbrake, improved engine cooling fans, a headset intercom for driver and passenger communication, and a traction control system.

So (for what reason?), how about this Porsche 962, which is available to buy now?

If you were driving on the highway and a Porsche like this approached you from behind, you would probably think you were hallucinating.
