Porsche 911 992.2 price comparison with overseas: Is the Carrera S expensive or the GTS cheaper?

Posted: Posted:

Well, the other day, Porsche 911The 992.2 Carrera S was announcedHowever, since the announcement, we have received many messages from people saying, "Don't you think the pricing of the Carrera S is a bit strange?"

Indeed, when the Carrera S was announced, I also personally commented that "the difference between the base model and the Carrera S is 5.09 million yen," so I was curious and wrote down the prices of the 992.2 Porsche 911 announced so far in Japan, the US, and Germany.

That doesn't mean we've reached any conclusions, but I hope that these comparison tables will be of some help to you in making some kind of consideration.

Price comparison of the 992.2 Porsche 911 (Japan, USA, Germany)

First of all, these are the vehicle prices of the Porsche 911 (992.2 model) that have been announced so far.

The exchange rates for the US dollar and euro are calculated based on the current rates of January 11, 2025: US dollar = 157.69 yen and euro = 161.74 yen.

In this price comparison, we have included the price difference between each higher-grade model.

Looking at this, it is clear that in Japan, the price difference between the base and Carrera S is large, and more than anything, the price of the Carrera GTS is set much lower. The Carrera 4 GTS is also cheaper than in other countries.

Regarding the price difference between the base and Carrera S, there is the "Carrera T" which is also popular in Japan, so I wondered if the price in Japan was adjusted by putting it in between the base model and the S... but the price of the T is between the Carrera and S below:

But even looking at this, I still get the impression that "the Carrera T was also priced cheaply compared to other countries."

When you compare them like this, it seems that the price of the 911 GTS in Japan was actually quite low.

At first, I thought that since the GTS was the first hybrid model for the 911, the ICE model, the Carrera S, was priced higher to create the feeling of great value, and the GTS was priced the same as the S despite being a GTS, but when I looked at the pricing in other countries, that doesn't seem to be the case... (Japan is the only country where it's cheaper).

What does this mean? I can certainly understand why you might be wondering about this.

By the way, this calculation was done on January 11, 2025, when 1 euro was worth 161.74 yen. However, the exchange rate for 1 euro in the two weeks prior to May 28, 2024, when the 992.2 Porsche 911 GTS was announced, was around 168 to 170 yen. Even if the price had been decided in the previous month of April, the highest yen exchange rate in April would have been 162.91 yen on April 1, 2024.

Therefore, I don't think the price difference is due to the relationship between the euro and the yen being too different... (This is just my speculation).

Finally, for your reference,As of December 2018This is the price list for Porsche 911 in.

Looking at this, we can see that the difference between the base and S models was smaller than it is now, but even in 2018 there was a price difference of about 2 million yen between the GTS and S, so the current difference of only 510,000 yen still seems like a fairly abnormal number, even when you consider that it is a hybrid and an ICE model.

Even so, I understand that prices have risen in many ways, but in 2018, the Carrera 4 GTS cost 18.88 million yen, but now (992.2), the base model is the same as the base Carrera T (18.65 million yen).

I once again realized that "when you want something, that's the time to buy it."

Of course, there will be situations where you want something but can't buy it yet, but I think now that when it becomes possible, it's better to act immediately.

I often see and hear people who are concerned about the resale price of the 992.2, and although I don't think that the resale price can be ignored, I would be happy if you could enjoy a Porsche that you would like to drive if possible in your short life.

I don't mean to sound bossy, but the older I get, the more I feel like I don't have much time left to enjoy my Porsche (how old-fashioned that sounds lol).

I don't want to do anything to unnecessarily lower the resale value, but I don't want to drive a Porsche just for the sake of resale.

I don't think that the value of enjoying a Porsche, feeling happy driving a Porsche, the connections that a Porsche makes, and so on, are reflected solely in the resale price.

Oh, I'm so drunk I can't even understand what I'm saying anymore, so I'll stop here (lol).

good night!

※I am writing the numbers while drunk, so if you find any mistakes, I would appreciate it if you could point them out.
