Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom
Frauscher, the Austrian-based manufacturer of luxury boats and yachts, and Porsche have announced the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom.
This is a classic small and versatile sports motorboat with a closed foredeck and cabin, and is equipped with a fully electric drive unit from the Porsche Macan Turbo.
Currently, there are two versions available: the Runabout, which has a classic look and an enclosed foredeck with cabin, and the Air, which has a centre helm and allows you to sit and relax at the bow.
Following the eFantom (which appears to be an open-top model) that was named best electric boat at the prestigious Best of Boat Awards in November 2024, the closed version of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is now on sale as part of a limited first edition of 25 units... or so the announcement has been made.
Like every Porsche, the eFantom offers exclusive experiences and exceptional performance, setting new standards in the nautical world as an elegant day cruiser with an innovative, powerful drive system.
Porsche Macan Turbo all-electric drive unit
The electric boat, which is 8.67 metres long and 2.49 metres wide, boasts excellent acceleration, ample propulsion, performance, timeless design and luxurious amenities - characteristics that are equally applicable to the Porsche Macan. In addition to these features, the boat is actually powered by the rear-axle engine from the Macan Turbo, the most powerful version of the full EV Macan.
The boat is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that outputs up to 400 kW. The motor is mounted in the boat's hull and controlled directly via a Z-drive, with the control unit housed in a waterproof box bearing the Porsche logo.
The motor's efficiency is optimised thanks to cutting-edge power electronics, and the use of silicon carbide in the pulse inverter enables particularly high switching frequencies. The high-voltage battery with a total capacity of 100 kWh is also adopted from the Macan.
Furthermore, the wire rope mounted suspension absorbs large shocks that are unavoidable when riding in waves or at high speeds.
Unique design options
The new 850 Fantom is said to seat up to seven people, and the aft swimming platform leads to a spacious lounge area with comfortable sunbathing pads.
Studio FA Porsche and Style Porsche played a major role in the design of the cockpit, and of course the design includes Porsche class on the headrests and a Porsche steering wheel.
The first Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is available in Porsche's Oak Green Metallic Neo color with Truffle Blanc Luck padding and Orange Stitching Package 930.
The boat is scheduled to make its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf, the world's largest indoor water sports trade fair, in January 2025.
The eFantom also comes equipped with a foldable sunshade and a high-end audio system with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as standard (though it wasn't specified which system this is).
All of this can be controlled via a 12-inch infotainment display, and it also has an integrated echo sounder and chartplotter.
Like the Macan, there is also a display in the passenger seat.
The eFantom is said to be equipped with an LED ambient light on the rear, as well as an LED underwater light.
The price of the interesting (?) Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is said to start at 572,934 euros. Wait, that's about 92 million yen at today's exchange rate? That's quite a price!
The vehicle will be built at the Frauscher shipyard in Ohlsdorf in northern Austria, with Porsche supplying the hybrid battery and drive system, including the control unit, as a pre-assembled module.
Frauscher will be responsible for final assembly, sales logistics and after-sales management.
