Before we got married, my husband promised me that I would buy my beloved Porsche 911.
When we were dating before we got married, I had experience driving manual cars overseas and was able to drive manual cars, but my driver's license in Japan was only for automatics.
When my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) found out about this, he once said, half-jokingly, in the course of a conversation, "I'll buy you a Porsche one day, so you should remove the automatic restriction so that's ready for then."
Of course, it wasn't said seriously, but rather it was just a light-hearted joke that came up in the flow of conversation.
After hearing that, I thought to myself, "It's true that one day I might drive a manual car again," regardless of whether it was a Porsche or not, so I removed the automatic restriction from my Japanese driver's license.
After that, I got married to my husband, and since we both started driving BMWs, we've been driving BMWs ever since.
Since I had been driving BMWs for quite a long time, I had vaguely thought that I should continue driving BMWs, to be honest, without giving it much thought.
But my husband always seemed to care about me saying, "I'll buy you a Porsche someday," and about 15 years after that promise, one day he suddenly asked me, "Shall I buy a Porsche?"
However, I had vaguely thought that I would just keep driving BMWs (because I really liked BMWs), and the Carreras I had driven up until then hadn't really suited me, so I wasn't all that keen on buying one, thinking "Well, maybe I don't need to buy one." (Of course, all the Carreras are lovely and cool. It's just that they just didn't appeal to me enough to make me think "I want to buy one!")
But. One day.
911 came to my house.
Until now, I didn't think I wanted that much when I saw the 911, but at first glance, the late 991 Carrera that my husband decided to buy said, "It's too cool. It's too cute. I want to ride this." I fell in love with this car at first sight and fell in love with it.
The expression "I fell in love" really seemed to be the best match, and I instantly fell in love with this car with a feeling of romance, and I couldn't help it.
Just one thing: it's not a manual car.
After all, automatic transmissions are easier for me to drive on a daily basis in Japan, and since I was eager to get an automatic transmission, we decided on a PDK (my husband would have preferred a manual transmission, but since this was a car for me, he compromised and went with the PDK).
I am very satisfied with the PDK. I haven't yet realized the point of removing the manual restriction, but I'm looking forward to the day when manual cars will come again.
★Postscript★ (January 2023)
718 Boxster GTS (2.5) came to our house, It became the left MT, so finally the purpose of releasing the manual limitation to "ride the Porsche MT" was achieved ^ ^
★Postscript★ (June 2023)
And then finally my biggest dreamCarrera T, the left MT of the base model 911 Carreracame to me. It is the beloved Porsche 911 following the black Carrera.
★Addition★(August 2024)
And thenPorsche 911 997 GT3also came ^^ It's the best!
So, I'm grateful to my husband for keeping his promise and buying a Porsche after more than a decade, even though I didn't really care.
This is because meeting Porsche was not just about "buying a car," but also about "making life more enjoyable" and "opening the door to a life with an even brighter future."
It may be an exaggeration, but I think that owning a 911 has really made my life more enjoyable.
I honestly think that the reason why Porsches and other cars that are called supercars are so expensive is because it's not just the cost of the car, but the cost of making life more enjoyable and opening the door to a greater future.
If anyone is hesitant to buy a Porsche, it may be a common word that is said in various places, but I think that "If you are worried, you should buy it." Of course, I don't think it's necessary to borrow money that makes life difficult.
However, if you are financially able to buy a Porsche but are hesitant because you are worried about what other people think, then you should buy one without any hesitation. That's what I think. I believe that there is a lot more to life that opens up than just the fact that you have bought a car.
So, now I love Porsche to the point that I feel like I can't live without my beloved Porsche 911 (lol). I love the 911 so much that I talk to the car every time I get in it.
