Production of gasoline-engine 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster models to end in October 2025

Apparently, dealer information has been leaked...

It has been said before that the 718 models (Cayman, Boxster) will become electric vehicles in the future, and the internal combustion engine 718 will be discontinued, but there has been no clear date given as to when production of the gasoline engine 718 will end.

Now, there are rumors that the ICE718 will be phased out (ended) in October 2025, so although this information is not confirmed, I would like to write about it.

The Porsche dealer documentation states:

End of production for all 982 models is currently planned for October 2025.
982 models continue to not include Autonomous Emergency Braking, therefore PDK volume is limited. Please encourage Manual Transmission where possible.
RS models: Updated crankcase ventilation and DME software to comply with OBD legislation from MY25.

In other words:

Production of all 982 models is scheduled to end in October 2025.
The 982 models do not include automatic emergency braking, so PDK volumes are limited. We recommend the manual transmission whenever possible.
RS models feature updated crankcase ventilation and DME software for OBD compliance.

The 718 has an old basic design, so it is inevitable that production will end, but the planned complete switch to EVs will be disappointing for users and a high risk for the manufacturer.
Other manufacturers have only made HVs and PHEVs, and the results have been disastrous. The V12 Revuelto is sold out for the next five years, but the V8 turbo + PHEV that succeeds the Huracan will be available for anyone to buy even if it launches in August. On the other hand, the pure ICE Huracan is very popular and there will be a scramble to get it until the 2021 model, which is not subject to any noise regulations. If the Revuelto had been produced in the same numbers as the SF90, it might have been possible to buy it now? However, unlike Ferrari, Lamborghini has a battery warranty for new cars.

Porsche can't afford to release a second or third Taycan. The EU is arguing over tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, but I think this is a way to protect EU manufacturers while also cooling off on issues such as charging infrastructure and waste battery processing. EV batteries cannot be regenerated and re-installed, and repurposing them for other purposes has become cost-prohibitive, resulting in them becoming the worst thing for the environment.

So I'm going to go with the original Carrera Cabriolet for 992.2. And then the Corvette, the Emira... it's ironic that pure ICE is the best for the environment.
I think there will definitely be a return to ICE for both the 718 and Macan.

    Usually, rear-wheel drive is more difficult to handle, but I think the 911 is more of a luxury car, and has no choice but to swing it for the rear-wheel drive. Especially the 992. The GT3 is an exception, though. The 992GTS sports suspension has a lowering amount of -10mm, but the 991 had a -20mm, so you can tell the 992 is luxurious.
    This is also true when comparing the Huracan with the 488 and F8. The Huracan, which has a lower ground clearance than the Ferrari, has more downforce and looks sporty. The Ferrari is also unstable in a straight line at high speeds, but the Huracan sticks to the road.
    For everyday use, it is easier to ride on a softer tire like the 911 than the 718. Public roads always have sideways slopes and ruts. With the early 35GT-R, when I tried to stop at a traffic light, I would sway a meter to the side in the rut and almost hit the car next to me. It is also a good idea to put too much strain on the suspension, including stabilizers, tower bars, and camber bars. I think Michelin PS4S is better than POTENZA tires.

      The early 35 GT-R was swayed sideways by one meter on a rut?! So that's quite possible.
      
      It's -10mm for the 992, but from the looks of it it feels like it's much higher than that (lol). Even if you live in Tokyo, there's no need for a front lifter at all with a 992 Cabriolet.
      
      I can see how the Huracan sticks to the road! It feels very sporty.

I'm about to buy one, but according to the dealer, they're only taking orders for the Style Edition, and I can't buy the original 718 anymore. Even if I order it now, I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy it 100%. The delivery is in June next year, so I think they'll stop accepting orders even sooner.

  Since it's a race car and not for sale, this may not be very helpful, but the Cayman GT4 E Performance weighs about 1,600 kg, which is about 200 kg heavier than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
  
  If we assume that a regular Boxster (PDK) today weighs around 1,400kg, I don't think it will reach 2,000kg unless it gains at least 600kg from that...but if it actually does exceed 2,000kg, that would also be a surprise (laughs).
  
  However, they have previously said that they will not release a heavy sports car, so I think they will be able to keep it as light as possible! (I don't know if that's possible (lol)).
